A Day in Hosea: Chapter 1

Hosea Chapter 1

Key Verse:

10 “Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘children of the living God.’

Central Truth:

God loves us and never stops pursuing us. He is faithful and just, offering redemption to all who accept it.

In the beginning of Hosea, God begins to speak to Hosea and the first thing He said to him was to go marry a promiscuous woman . Gee… thanks God. We are immediately introduced to a truly trusting individual who loves God and doesn’t ask questions. As Gomer births their children, God paints a picture of the Israelites’s future due to their sinful ways. They’ve turned away from Him and God plans to remove his favor from them. But God doesn’t stop loving His people. Despite a desolate future, God declares that they will grow and outnumber the sand on the shore and that He will redeem them back to himself… His children.

I love this picture of redemption. Our God is a just god. He doesn’t waiver when it comes to His law. He knows what is best for us but ultimately, we have to decide whether or not to follow Him. We will always make poor choices which lead us farther away from God. However, He’s always there, with outstretched arms, ready to welcome us home.

1. In this season of your life, do you feel like the Isrealites, slowly drifting from the Lord? Or do you feel like Hosea, trusting in the Lord even when it seems crazy?

2. Has God ever asked you to do something crazy and you did it because you knew it was in your best interest?
